Improve Your Impromptu Speeches

26 year-old Peter currently works in an offshore study  placement firm. Daily he speaks to people who walk into his office to make enquiries. One challenge he’s been faced with is giving impromptu speeches.  The class of persons he speaks to are usually people of great substance and this frightens him even though he claims to have a lion heart. Although the task of delivering an impromptu speech appears enormous, there still exists the  possibility of giving an excellent one.The strategies below can help:

  • *   Use the time you have between when being asked to speak to plan. Most people claim that their challenge with giving impromptu speeches is time. But is it true that there is no time? No. The time is just too short for people to recognize it.

  • *   If you’ve got a pen and paper, jot down notes or input your notes in your smart phone or iPad. Select one message to focus on.

  • *   When called up, move slowly. Hurrying could increase a feeling of unease. Take your time to breathe deeply.

  • *   Take your time to begin. Start your speech on a humorous tone. Look around, smile and make eye contact.

  • *   Do not look too deeply into your notes. Don’t peruse just a cursory look.

  • *   Assume your impromptu speaking is a conversation with a friend so keep your language natural and fluid.

  • *   Choose your diction carefully. It must be the one appropriate for your audience.

  • *   Keep speech void of vocal fillers.
