A Plague of Rats (By: Charles Odemero)

A rat came to my bunk last night

Though quite exhausted I said "all's well"

So I slept dreamless like a child

My joints  lay dead

Even my sleuthing ears went dead!

At daybreak I woke up

With a smile breaking from my face

I said 'thank God it's daybreak'

But suddenly I heard footsteps

Yes, footsteps of strangers

So I turned sideways

Behold! I saw an army of tiny undesirable elements

Walking freely like landlords with

My handcrafts in the mill of their stomach
